Combat veteran, Harvard JD/MBA and successful working mother pledges to immediately address the rise in violent crime by fully funding the criminal justice system and to lower property taxes by restoring the focus to core government services

HOUSTON – Today, Alexandra del Moral Mealer, a Harris County resident, Afghanistan war veteran, Harvard JD/MBA and successful working mother announced her campaign for the Republican nomination for Harris County Judge

“As I have talked with residents across Harris County, one thing is painfully clear, regardless of party affiliation: violent crimes are dramatically increasing across the County and important County services are deteriorating. This year, Houston has more homicides than Los Angeles, a city of nearly twice its size. While the statistics are startling, the actual stories of the victims are beyond heartbreaking,” said del Moral Mealer.

“It’s not hard to see what is going on here,” del Moral Mealer said, “During Judge Lina Hidalgo’s term, she’s defunded our law enforcement officers and pursued an exhaustive list of pet projects that have drained the County’s savings accounts and Harris County residents are feeling the negative effects. If you have the time to take a close look at what is happening at the Commissioners Court, there has been a dramatic shift away from core government services, and it’s not acceptable. It’s critically important for the residents of Harris County to consider the benefits we all received under years of Republican leadership. Today, I am committing to being the County’s next liberty-minded conservative leader. Under Judge Lina Hidalgo, the Harris County Commissioners Court has failed us on all fronts,” said del Moral Mealer.

A graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point following the 9/11 Terror Attacks, Alexandra del Moral Mealer served as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer (Army bomb squad) in Afghanistan. Having spent years honing her leadership skills in challenging environments, Alex is confident that she can deliver results under pressure. After her service, Alex graduated from Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School before moving to Houston to pursue a career in energy finance, where she worked on the execution of billion-dollar transactions as a strategic advisor on mergers & acquisitions and capital markets financings. From her experience in energy finance, Alex is ready to restore fiscal discipline to Harris County by building an efficient and effective budget.

“Alexandra ‘beat’ the City of Houston this year when they ordered her to remove solar panels from her home and I know she will continue to fight to keep local government focused on the things that matter to Harris County residents. While she has impressive credentials, I really like that she chose to be a Texan and Houstonian when the time came to decide on location. Intelligent, financially smart and a fighter for individual rights and our county! What a great combination for Harris County Judge,” said The Honorable Martha Wong, Former Houston City Councilwoman and State Representative.
